Song Roulette – Jason

Jason Smith, “Song Roulette”:

1. “Farewell to the Fairground” by White Lies, from To Lose My Life…
Love these guys. Lyrics and music are just amazing. A true tribute to Echo and the Bunnymen.

2. ”Hairdresser on Fire” by Morrissey, from Bona Drag
It’s a good song for the salon!

3. “Substances” by Mark Mallman, from Between the Devil and Middle C
Fox got me into this guy and he’s a pretty amazing performer and writer. We’ve had the honor of sharing the stage with the Mallman! For some reason I really want to watch that movie “The Warriors when I hear this song!” ..Hmm go fig…

4. “I Spy” by Pulp, from A Different Class
What can I say… these guys have class. Jarvis Cocker has a great voice and is an amazing guitarist. Wish they where still together.

5. “Love is Dead” by The Lovemakers, from Let’s be Friends
Again another band that we’ve played with a few times. Great song that puts me in a great mood; but the irony is that the lyrics are so damn depressing.

Song Roulette – Darla

Darla VanWinkle, “Song Roulette”

1. “West Coast” by Coconut Records, from Nighttiming
I am such a Wes Anderson fan that when I hear this song, I make up my own Anderson film with Jason Schwartzman singing and staring…and sometime I’m in the movie too :)

2. “Precious” by Minipop, from A New Hope
I came across this band on Pandora, and have been hooked ever since.

3. “Rainy Monday” by Shiny Toy Guns, from We Are Pilots
Not my favorite song, but by one of my favorite bands.

4. “Bedshaped” by Keane, from Hopes & Fears
What can I say, I love a guy who can play piano…

5. “Ice Dance” by Danny Elfman, from Edward Scissorhands
Whenever it snows I think of this song…

Song Roulette – Ryan

Ryan Goodman, “Song Roulette”

1. “Shattered” by The Rolling Stones, from Some Girls
The last track on my favorite Stones record. No band closes albums better than the Stones. No band opens albums better than the Stones. Ah hell, there’s just no-one better than the Stones.

2. “Dance Song ’97″ by Sleater-Kinney, from Dig Me Out
One of my favorite bands/singers/drummers (I could listen to Corin scream, Carrie wail, and Janet kick out jams all damned day long). S-K even snuck some organ into this song.  Cheeky Riot Grrrls!

3. “The Great Escape” by Morrow, from Morrow
Band from Bloomington, IN.  One of my favorite records of recent years. Truly great. Jarod & co. absolutely made a masterpiece.

4. “Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting” by Elton John, from Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road
The thought of Elton in a fistfight with some toughs in a dancehall makes me giggle.

5. “Do You Wanna Hit It?” by The Donnas, from The Donnas Turn 21
I “heart” The Donnas.  Where were these girls when I was in high school?  Oh yeah, in High School, but in California. Donna R (Allison Robertson) is one of my favorite guitar players (not “girl guitar players,” but period); and Torry (Donna C) plays the drums like they stole from her. What’s not to love about this band? Nothing, that’s what.
